8/25/2022 – Getting to God

When God gave me the vision of what Go Godly would become it started with a prayer. The prayer was simple. “What purpose do you want me to walk out, Lord?” Now, I have prayed to God about many things, but this was admittedly and perhaps a bit shamefully the first time I actually asked Him to direct my steps. Now, I’m hardly a child, and should probably have brought this up decades ago, but as most of humans do including Frank Sinatra, I did things my way. So, the outcome of that often wasn’t so wonderful. My way, got me into some lovely bits of trouble over my lifetime. When I think back of the many times I should have asked and didn’t, I realize in each case I faceplanted with a thud and then God took my mess and created a miracle in the midst of it. Isn’t that just how God works. His grace is so amazing.

Perhaps my asking at long last was why God gave me this exciting vision like he did. He just kept showing me piece by piece all that Go Godly would become. In fact, at one point I asked God to hold up because this was a HUGE vision and so exciting, but my human brain was exploding and starting to get very overwhelmed. Still, I took the base of what God showed me and started building Go Godly.

The funny thing is although I have a business background that is multi-faceted and I am a writer and author and I have a vast background volunteering and working with children, which has all been incredibly helpful with getting this project to where we are presently, what God had shown me didn’t settle in until a few months back when I sat down and did our business plan.

Over the four years that I developed Godly Girls and Godly Guys curriculum for the Kingdom site, I wrote award activities on themes, and wrote books, sketched craft video ideas, sketched illustration ideas or made mock ups on Canva. For weeks, I sat and wrote lists, checked them off and gradually there were over 200 lessons written. Over those four years, God kept directing my steps. I would start each day asking Him, “What can I do for you today?” Sometimes the answer was simple like “You know what to do.” Other times it was directional, “Start with the hardest thing first.” which was FANTASTIC advice by the way. Thank you Lord!!! Then there was stuff like “Get your house in order.” which has a lot of meaning and has been a process of both organizing household stuff as well as organizing Go Godly stuff, like the business plan. Plus, God also has a great sense of humor, because the latest response to that prayer was a simple, “Finish.” Gotta love that!

So, I am finishing. The thing is when God opens up stuff to show you, you seldom see what you expected. For example, in getting my house in order God showed me a lot more of this amazing business plan than I had imagined. As I put together the “official” business plan and typed up all that Go Godly was and would become and how the Kingdom was planned for video game creation, it was amazing. You know why? Because I don’t really play video games. That’s right folks – I grew up with pinball machines, Pong, PacMan, and my favorite was Centipede. So, the concept of a fully immersive 3-D video game environment set in ancient Israel, with avatars, skins, props, mascots, and hidden games, puzzles, educational content and all the technicality that goes with it was far from my comprehension four years ago when we started this project. Even as I read the business plan and let others read it, everyone said the same thing (including me). “How in the WORLD did you come up with all this?” Well, that is easy. I didn’t!! God did. It is evident in every detail, because I wouldn’t have a clue without God directing my path.

Now, as we move forward to fundraising for this project those same voices of doubt are rising up. How will we ever raise that kind of money? The same voice answers though. It’s God. The answer is simple. I can’t do anything without Him. Well, I can but it never ends well and then God lifts me up and wipes me off and lets me go, hoping I won’t leave Him again. So many times, I did though. Even within the months and years of this project, not ever turn I made did I remember to check with God and sometimes I felt like I was walking in quicksand until I realized I wasn’t listening.

So, today’s word of wisdom is to just ask God every single day, what YOU can do for HIM! So often our prayers are laden with demands on God for healing, fixing, helping, restoring, and creating, and God hears every prayer and always does what is best in every situation, even though we may not see the greatness in the moment. He even takes on our wrath and anger when we don’t get our way. Yet, when we give ourselves over to God’s direction and purpose in our lives what He will do is more amazing than your imagination can create. Best of all within the time spent with God walking out your purpose with God at your side, you will find the answers to all the other prayers. Before where you prayed and waited, within obedience and service to God we needn’t wait at all, for we see in every little thing God’s amazing provision and we are so grateful for it. Life is full of perspectives. Ours, other people’s, the people who love us, the people who hate us, each fills our head and hearts with clatter, doubt, fear and anxiety. When we choose instead to do God’s will for our lives and see things through God’s perspective which is wholly LOVE, all the clatter turns to music, the doubt becomes confidence, the fear is swept away by faith and the anxiety evaporates into peace.

Today no matter where you are headed, make sure you get to God! It’s the errand that matters in the big scheme of things.
